T'Zaagje
The province of South Holland has established seven heritage routes that highlight the region’s rich cultural history. One of these is the Maritime Heritage Line, which includes the areas of Kinderdijk, Gorinchem, and the Biesbosch. For the master’s graduation project, the former Delta shipyard was selected as the site. This shipyard is located in an outer dike area of Sliedrecht known as 't Zaagje. The site features two key structures: the old shipyard and a historic water tower. Both buildings are in a state of severe disrepair and are in urgent need of restoration. As part of the project, a comprehensive masterplan has been developed for 't Zaagje, incorporating an architectural vision for the area. However, the primary focus is the transformation of the old shipyard. The project proposes the restoration, repurposing, and adaptive reuse of the existing shipyard structure. The new design will honor the site’s industrial past by introducing a makerspace and shared workspaces—reviving the spirit of craftsmanship and material work that once defined the shipyard.
